Ingredients

  • 250 grams all-purpose flour
  • 225 grams unsalted butter
  • 50 grams granulated sugar
  • 7 grams active dry yeast
  • 120 ml warm milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 5 ml vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 400 grams canned cherry pie filling
  • 100 grams powdered sugar
  • 15 ml lemon juice

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, dissolve 7 grams of active dry yeast in 120 ml of warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine 250 grams of all-purpose flour, 50 grams of granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt.

Step 3

Mix in the yeast mixture, 1 large egg, and 5 ml of vanilla extract until a dough forms.

Step 4

On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until smooth, about 5 minutes.

Step 5

Roll out the dough into a 1 cm thick rectangle. Spread 225 grams of unsalted butter evenly over the dough.

Step 6

Fold the dough into thirds like a letter, then roll it out again. Repeat the folding process two more times. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

Step 7

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).

Step 8

Roll out the chilled dough into a 1 cm thick rectangle and cut it into 12 squares.

Step 9

Place a tablespoon of canned cherry pie filling in the center of each square.

Step 10

Fold the corners of each square towards the center, pressing them down gently.

Step 11

Place the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 16-18 minutes, until golden brown.

Step 12

In a small bowl, mix 100 grams of powdered sugar with 15 ml of lemon juice to create a glaze.

Step 13

Drizzle the glaze over the warm danishes before serving.
