Ingredients

  • 10 cups Day-old bread cubes (white or wheat)
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter
  • 1 large Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 stalks Celery, diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 cups Chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 large Eggs, beaten
  • 0.25 cups Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 0.5 teaspoons Dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the bread cubes by cutting 1 to 2 loaves of day-old bread into 1-inch cubes. Spread them on a baking sheet and leave to dry overnight or bake in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for 10-15 minutes until slightly crisp.

Step 2

In a large skillet on medium heat, melt the butter. Add the chopped onions, celery, and minced garlic. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

Step 3

Transfer the bread cubes to a large mixing bowl. Add the sautéed vegetables, fresh parsley, sage, thyme, rosemary, salt, and black pepper. Toss until evenly combined.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken or vegetable broth with the beaten eggs. Gradually pour the liquid mixture over the bread cubes, tossing gently to ensure everything is evenly moistened. Use enough to lightly soak the bread without making it soggy.

Step 5

Grease the interior of your crock pot with a thin layer of butter or cooking spray. Transfer the stuffing mixture into the crock pot, pressing it down gently and evenly.

Step 6

Cover and cook on LOW for 4-5 hours, or until the stuffing is moist, tender, and the edges are slightly crisp.

Step 7

Once done, fluff the stuffing with a fork before serving. Serve warm as a side dish for your holiday feast or favorite main courses.
