Ingredients

  • 6 medium Russet potatoes
  • 2 cups Cooked ham
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 3 cups Whole milk
  • 2 cups Sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Paprika
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.

Step 2

Peel the potatoes and slice them into thin, even rounds about 1/8-inch thick. Set aside.

Step 3

Cut the cooked ham into bite-sized cubes, about 1/2-inch pieces. Set aside.

Step 4

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly, to form a roux.

Step 5

Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook for 3–4 minutes, or until the mixture thickens.

Step 6

Stir in the cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Mix until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth. Remove from heat.

Step 7

Arrange one-third of the potato slices in an even layer at the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Top with one-third of the ham and one-third of the cheese sauce. Repeat this process two more times, ending with a layer of cheese sauce on top.

Step 8

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes.

Step 9

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.

Step 10

Allow the dish to rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired.
