Ingredients

  • 12 oz Rotini pasta
  • 1 lb Ground Italian sausage
  • 1 Yellow onion, diced
  • 3 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups Marinara sauce
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tsp Dried Italian seasoning
  • 0.25 tsp Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish and set aside.

Step 2

Cook the rotini pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 7-8 minutes.

Step 4

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the sausage. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion becomes translucent.

Step 5

Stir in the marinara sauce, heavy cream, salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes (if using). Allow the mixture to simmer for 5 minutes.

Step 6

Remove the skillet from heat and stir in 1 cup of shredded mozzarella and 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese until melted and combined.

Step 7

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rotini pasta with the sausage sauce. Mix until the pasta is evenly coated.

Step 8

Transfer the mixture to the prepared casserole dish. Spread it out evenly.

Step 9

Sprinkle the top of the casserole with the remaining mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, and Parmesan cheese.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.

Step 11

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.

Step 12

Serve warm and enjoy!
