Ingredients

  • 400 g canned black beans
  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 100 g cheddar cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 medium garlic clove
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 pieces burger buns
  • 4 pieces lettuce leaves
  • 4 pieces sliced tomato
  • 4 tbsp your favorite burger sauce

Directions

Step 1

Drain and rinse the black beans thoroughly, then place them in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2

Mash the beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but with some chunks remaining for texture.

Step 3

Grate the cheddar cheese and add it to the bowl along with the breadcrumbs.

Step 4

Mince the garlic clove and add it to the mixture.

Step 5

Add the ground cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper to the bowl.

Step 6

Crack the egg into the bowl and mix everything together until well combined. The mixture should hold its shape when pressed; if it's too wet, add a small amount of breadcrumbs. If it's too dry, add a splash of water.

Step 7

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a burger patty.

Step 8

Heat the olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.

Step 9

Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.

Step 10

Toast the burger buns lightly, if desired.

Step 11

Assemble each burger by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by the cheesy beanburger patty, a slice of tomato, and a dollop of your favorite burger sauce. Top with the upper bun.

Step 12

Serve immediately and enjoy your Cheesy Beanburgers!
