Ingredients

  • 200 grams Canned baked beans
  • 100 grams Cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices Sliced bread
  • 20 grams Butter
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven or grill to 180°C (350°F).

Step 2

Place a small saucepan on medium heat and warm the baked beans, stirring occasionally. If desired, add the Worcestershire sauce for an extra kick.

Step 3

Grate the cheddar cheese and set it aside.

Step 4

Butter one side of each slice of bread evenly.

Step 5

Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, on a clean cutting board or plate.

Step 6

Spoon the warmed baked beans onto the unbuttered side of the bread slices, spreading them evenly.

Step 7

Sprinkle half of the grated cheese over the beans on each slice. Add a pinch of salt and black pepper for seasoning.

Step 8

Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up, to create sandwiches.

Step 9

Place a frying pan over medium heat or use a sandwich press. Cook the sandwiches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and the cheese inside begins to melt, or use the sandwich press to grill evenly.

Step 10

If using an oven, transfer the sandwiches to a baking tray and bake for 4-6 minutes, flipping halfway through for even crispness.

Step 11

Remove the toasties from the heat and let them rest for 1-2 minutes before slicing.

Step 12

Serve warm and enjoy!
