Ingredients

  • 250 grams Self-raising flour
  • 50 grams Unsalted butter
  • 175 ml Milk
  • 100 grams Grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Paprika (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine the self-raising flour and salt.

Step 3

Add the butter to the bowl and rub it into the flour with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Step 4

Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the milk. Gently mix with a fork or your hands until a soft dough forms.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently and shape into a rectangle approximately 1 cm thick.

Step 6

Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese evenly over the rectangle of dough.

Carefully roll the dough into a log, starting from one of the longer edges. Pinch the seam gently to seal the roll.

Cut the dough log into 6 equal scrolls and place them flat-side-down on the prepared baking tray.

Brush the tops of the scrolls with a small amount of additional milk or melted butter, if desired, to help the sesame seeds stick.

Sprinkle the sesame seeds evenly over the tops of the scrolls. Optionally, sprinkle with a pinch of paprika for an extra pop of color and flavor.
