Ingredients

  • 200 grams Hazelnuts
  • 30 grams Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 75 grams Powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil (neutral, like sunflower or grapeseed)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch Salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Spread the hazelnuts in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast them for 10-12 minutes, or until the skins darken and the nuts become fragrant.

Step 2

Allow the roasted hazelnuts to cool slightly, then transfer them to a clean kitchen towel. Rub the hazelnuts together inside the towel to remove most of their skins. It’s okay if some bits of skin remain.

Step 3

Place the skinned hazelnuts in a food processor or high-speed blender. Blend for about 4-5 minutes, pausing to scrape down the sides as needed, until you achieve a smooth, buttery consistency.

Step 4

Add the cocoa powder, powdered sugar, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt to the hazelnut butter. Blend again until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy. This may take 1-2 minutes.

Step 5

Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness or saltiness as desired by adding more powdered sugar or a tiny pinch of salt. Blend again to incorporate any adjustments.

Step 6

Transfer the homemade Nutella into a clean, airtight jar or container. It can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 weeks or in the refrigerator for longer shelf life (note: refrigerating might make it firmer).

Step 7

Enjoy your homemade Nutella as a spread on bread, with fruits, or in your favorite desserts!
