Ingredients

  • 1 cup Milk
  • 3 Chai tea bags
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 1.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cardamom
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground ginger
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground cloves
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups Brown sugar, packed
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cups Powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Heavy cream
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground cinnamon (for frosting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan. Line the bottom with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, bring the milk to a simmer over medium heat. Remove from heat, add the chai tea bags, and let steep for 10 minutes. Discard the tea bags and let the milk cool.

Step 3

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and cloves. Set aside.

Step 4

In a large bowl, using an electric mixer or a hand whisk, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.

Step 5

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.

Step 6

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in three additions, alternating with the cooled chai-infused milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix just until combined.

Step 7

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Step 8

Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 9

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

To make the frosting, whisk together the powdered sugar, heavy cream, and ground cinnamon until smooth. Add more heavy cream, 1 teaspoon at a time, if needed to reach your desired consistency.

Step 11

Once the cake is completely cool, drizzle or spread the frosting over the top.

Step 12

Slice and serve your chai cake, optionally garnished with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon or a dusting of powdered sugar.
