Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 14.5 ounces diced tomatoes, canned
  • 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cups water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, and sauté until fragrant and soft, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 3

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Step 4

Stir in the tomato sauce, canned diced tomatoes (with their juice), Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 5

While the sauce is simmering, bring 3 cups of water to a boil in a large pot. Add the elbow macaroni and cook until al dente, about 6 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Step 6

In a 9x13-inch baking dish, spread half of the cooked macaroni evenly over the bottom. Top with half of the meat sauce, spreading it out evenly. Follow with half of the shredded cheddar cheese.

Step 7

Repeat the layers with the remaining macaroni, meat sauce, and cheddar cheese.

Step 8

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.

Step 9

Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbling.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Enjoy your Cedric S Adams Casserole!
