Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 pound Ground Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 3 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • 0.5 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 12 sheets Lasagne noodles, uncooked
  • 4 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Sauté the chopped onion for 3-4 minutes until softened, then add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

Step 3

Add the ground beef and ground Italian sausage to the skillet. Cook until browned and fully cooked through, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess grease if necessary.

Step 4

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 5

While the sauce simmers, prepare the ricotta mixture. In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well and set aside.

Step 6

Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Cook the lasagne noodles according to the package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.

Step 7

In a 9x13-inch baking dish, start layering your lasagne. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the dish. Add a layer of lasagne noodles (about 3 sheets), followed by a layer of the ricotta mixture, a layer of meat sauce, and a sprinkle of shredded mozzarella. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of meat sauce topped with mozzarella cheese.

Step 8

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, ensuring it does not touch the cheese. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 9

Remove the aluminum foil and bake uncovered for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.

Step 10

Remove the lasagne from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
