Ingredients

  • 500 grams carrots
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons black pepper
  • 0.5 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (optional, chopped for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Wash, peel, and trim the carrots. If the carrots are large, slice them into even-sized sticks or rounds, about 1/4 inch thick, to ensure uniform cooking.

Step 2

Place a large skillet or sauté pan over medium heat. Add the water and bring it to a simmer.

Step 3

Add the prepared carrots to the skillet, then cover the pan with a lid. Allow the carrots to steam and simmer for about 8-10 minutes, or until they become tender but not mushy. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.

Step 4

Once the water has mostly evaporated, remove the lid. Add the unsalted butter, balsamic vinegar, and honey (if using) to the skillet.

Step 5

Toss the carrots in the butter and vinegar mixture to coat them evenly. Continue cooking over medium heat for an additional 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the liquid reduces and forms a glossy glaze.

Step 6

Season the glazed carrots with salt and black pepper to taste. Remove the pan from heat.

Step 7

Transfer the glazed carrots to a serving dish. If desired, garnish with freshly chopped parsley for added color and flavor.

Step 8

Serve warm as a delightful side dish alongside roasted meats, poultry, or vegetarian mains.
