Ingredients

  • 500 grams carrots
  • 30 grams butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Cointreau (orange liqueur)
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
  • 250 milliliters water

Directions

Step 1

Peel the carrots and slice them diagonally into 1/4-inch thick rounds.

Step 2

In a large skillet, add the water and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the carrot slices, cover, and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until they are just tender when pierced with a fork. Drain any remaining water and set the carrots aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in the brown sugar and cook for 1-2 minutes until it forms a glossy glaze.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to low and add the cooked carrots back into the skillet. Stir to coat them evenly in the glaze.

Step 5

Add the Cointreau to the skillet and stir gently. Let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the alcohol to cook off and the sauce to thicken slightly.

Step 6

Stir in the orange zest, salt, and pepper, ensuring the flavors are evenly distributed.

Step 7

Transfer the glazed carrots to a serving dish and sprinkle with chopped parsley, if desired, for a pop of color and freshness.

Step 8

Serve warm as a side dish to complement roasted meats, poultry, or festive mains.
