Ingredients

  • 8 cups cornbread
  • 4 cups day-old white bread
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 medium, diced yellow onion
  • 4 stalks, diced celery
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 whole large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon, dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons, freshly chopped parsley

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large casserole dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2

Crumble the cornbread and white bread into a large mixing bowl. Set aside to allow the mixture to dry out slightly.

Step 3

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onions and celery and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth and eggs until well combined.

Step 5

Pour the sautéed onions and celery over the crumbled bread mixture. Add the poultry seasoning, sage, salt, black pepper, and fresh parsley. Gently toss to combine.

Step 6

Slowly pour the broth and egg mixture over the bread mixture, stirring gently as you add to create a moist but not overly wet consistency. Adjust the amount of broth if needed.

Step 7

Transfer the mixture to the prepared casserole dish, spreading it evenly.

Step 8

Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let the dressing rest for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
