Ingredients

  • 4 large Fresh yams (sweet potatoes)
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons Dark spiced rum
  • 0.25 cup Heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup Pecans (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Peel the yams and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rounds.

Step 3

In a large saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium-low heat.

Step 4

Add the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.

Step 5

Add the sliced yams to the saucepan and toss gently to coat them in the brown sugar mixture.

Step 6

Transfer the coated yams to a 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading them out evenly.

Step 7

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Step 8

While the yams are baking, prepare the rum sauce by combining dark spiced rum, vanilla extract, and heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 9

Remove the foil from the yams and spoon some of the thickened glaze from the pan over the top.

Step 10

Return the yams to the oven and bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the yams are tender and caramelized.

Step 11

Remove the yams from the oven and drizzle with the prepared rum sauce.

Step 12

Optional: Sprinkle chopped pecans over the yams for added texture and flavor before serving.

Step 13

Serve warm and enjoy!
