Ingredients

  • 3 pounds pork spare ribs
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 0.5 cup soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 scallions, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the ribs by trimming excess fat and cutting them into individual ribs. Rinse them under cold water and pat dry with a paper towel.

Step 2

In a large bowl, mix the minced garlic, soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, vegetable oil, ground black pepper, salt, and chili flakes (if using) to create the marinade.

Step 3

Place the ribs in the bowl and thoroughly coat them with the marinade. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, for maximum flavor.

Step 4

Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).

Step 5

In a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven, add the marinated ribs along with all the marinade liquid. Pour in 2 cups of water to ensure the ribs stay moist during cooking.

Step 6

Cover the pot with a lid or aluminum foil and cook in the preheated oven for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the meat is tender and easily pulls away from the bone.

Step 7

Once the ribs are cooked, remove the pot from the oven and transfer the ribs to a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment paper.

Step 8

Preheat your oven’s broiler for a caramelized finish. Brush the ribs with the remaining marinade from the pot and broil them for 5-7 minutes, or until the edges are slightly charred and sticky.

Step 9

Remove the ribs from the broiler and let them rest for 5 minutes.

Step 10

Garnish with chopped scallions and sesame seeds before serving. Serve warm with your favorite side dishes.
