Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (80% lean)
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.25 tsp Onion powder
  • 2 pieces Hamburger buns (sesame seed, large-sized)
  • 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Yellow mustard
  • 4 pieces Pickle slices
  • 2 pieces Lettuce (crisp, large leaves)
  • 1 piece Tomato (large, sliced)
  • 0.25 piece Red onion (sliced into rings)
  • 2 slices American cheese slices
  • 1 tbsp Butter (for toasting buns)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat a grill or stovetop grill pan to medium-high heat.

Step 2

Divide the ground beef into 2 equal portions and shape each into patties about 5 inches in diameter. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Season both sides of the patties with salt, black pepper, and onion powder.

Step 4

Place the patties on the preheated grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty to melt.

Step 5

While the patties cook, butter the inside of the sesame seed buns and toast them on the grill or a skillet for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

Step 6

Assemble the burgers. Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Add a tablespoon of ketchup and half a teaspoon of mustard on top of the mayonnaise.

Step 7

Place the cooked burger patty with melted cheese on the bottom bun. Layer 2 pickle slices, a lettuce leaf, a tomato slice, and a few red onion rings on top of the patty.

Step 8

Place the top bun on the completed burger. Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as fries or onion rings.
