Ingredients

  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 250 grams ground pork
  • 100 grams breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 stalks green onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 250 milliliters pineapple juice
  • 200 milliliters coconut milk
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, green onion, garlic, ginger, allspice, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 2

Using your hands, form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a tray or plate.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches and cook for 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to make a slurry. Set aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, combine the pineapple juice, coconut milk, soy sauce, brown sugar, and lime juice. Stir well and bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.

Step 6

Gradually pour the cornstarch slurry into the sauce, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Simmer for 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 7

Return the cooked meatballs to the skillet, coating them evenly with the tropical sauce. Let them simmer in the sauce for an additional 3-4 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Step 8

Serve the Caribbean meatballs warm, garnished with fresh chopped cilantro if desired. They pair well with rice, quinoa, or as a party appetizer.
