Ingredients

  • 4 cups Water
  • 2 tablespoons Loose black tea or tea bags
  • 6 pods Whole green cardamom pods
  • 3 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Honey (optional)
  • 4 slices Lemon slices (optional, for serving)
  • 1 cup Ice cubes (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, combine 4 cups of water and 6 whole green cardamom pods. Gently crush the pods with the back of a spoon to release their aromatic oils.

Step 2

Bring the water to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 5 minutes to infuse the cardamom flavor.

Step 3

Add 2 tablespoons of loose black tea or 2 tea bags to the saucepan. Let the tea steep for an additional 3-4 minutes, depending on your desired tea strength.

Step 4

Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the tea through a fine mesh sieve into a heatproof pitcher or teapot to remove the tea leaves and cardamom pods.

Step 5

Stir in 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar (and 1 tablespoon of honey if desired) until fully dissolved. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.

Step 6

Serve the tea warm, garnished with lemon slices if desired. Alternatively, allow the tea to cool, then pour over ice cubes for a refreshing iced tea option.

Step 7

Store any leftover tea in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and enjoy chilled or reheated.
