Ingredients

  • 3 pieces ripe plantains
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 0.5 teaspoons vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 pinch pinch of salt

Directions

Step 1

Peel the plantains and slice them on a diagonal into approximately 1/2-inch thick slices.

Step 2

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the unsalted butter. Allow it to melt completely.

Step 3

Once the butter has melted, sprinkle the brown sugar evenly across the skillet and let it melt slightly, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 4

Carefully place the plantain slices in a single layer in the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side, until golden brown and caramelized.

Step 5

Flip the plantains and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes on the other side, until both sides are caramelized and the plantains are soft.

Step 6

Sprinkle a pinch of salt and, if desired, add cinnamon and vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.

Step 7

Remove from heat and transfer the caramelized plantains to a serving dish. Serve warm as a dessert or side dish.
