Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 2 medium (sliced thin) Onion
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 4 cups Cooked white rice
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 2 stalks (sliced, for garnish) Green onions

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined. Form into 4 equal patties about 1/2-inch thick, and set aside.

Step 2

Heat a large skillet over medium heat, and add the butter and vegetable oil. Once melted, add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 20-25 minutes until the onions are golden brown and caramelized. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, cook the beef patties over medium high heat for 3-4 minutes per side or until fully cooked through. Remove the patties and keep warm.

Step 4

To make the gravy, return the skillet to medium heat. Add the beef broth, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the pan.

Step 5

In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water to form a slurry. Slowly whisk the slurry into the simmering broth, and cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

Step 6

In a separate skillet, fry the eggs sunny-side up to your desired doneness.

Step 7

To assemble, divide the rice among 4 plates. Place a beef patty on top of the rice, then spoon caramelized onions and gravy over the patty. Top each with a fried egg.

Step 8

Garnish with sliced green onions, and serve hot.
