Ingredients

  • 450 grams Brussels sprouts
  • 6 slices Bacon
  • 120 milliliters Apple cider
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 tablespoon Maple syrup
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh thyme (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Trim the tough ends off the Brussels sprouts and cut each sprout in half lengthwise.

Step 2

Slice the bacon into small pieces and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

Step 4

Add the bacon pieces to the skillet and cook until they are crisp, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set it aside, leaving the rendered fat in the skillet.

Step 5

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the halved Brussels sprouts to the skillet, placing them cut-side down in a single layer.

Step 6

Let the sprouts cook undisturbed for 5-7 minutes, or until the cut sides are deeply caramelized and golden brown.

Step 7

Finely mince the garlic cloves and add them to the skillet, stirring to combine with the sprouts.

Step 8

Pour in the apple cider and maple syrup, then stir to coat the sprouts evenly. Allow the liquid to simmer and reduce for 5-8 minutes, until it thickens slightly and coats the sprouts.

Step 9

Season with salt, black pepper, and fresh thyme (if using). Return the cooked bacon to the skillet and toss to combine.

Step 10

Serve warm as a side dish, garnished with additional thyme if desired.
