Ingredients

  • 6 large Apples (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji)
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 cup Golden raisins
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 0.5 cup Chopped pecans
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

Peel, core, and dice the apples into 1-inch chunks.

Step 2

In a large saucepan or deep skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.

Step 3

Add the diced apples to the pan and cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften and slightly caramelize.

Step 4

Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon over the apples, stirring to coat the apples evenly.

Step 5

Add the lemon juice, golden raisins, and water. Stir, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pan.

Step 6

Cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very tender and starting to break down. Add additional water, 1 tablespoon at a time, if the mixture becomes too dry.

Step 7

While the apples cook, toast the chopped pecans in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant. Set aside.

Step 8

Remove the apples from heat and mash the mixture with a fork or potato masher to your desired consistency (smooth or chunky).

Step 9

Stir in the toasted pecans, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix well to combine.

Step 10

Serve warm or at room temperature. The applesauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
