Ingredients

  • 4 whole Pears (ripe but firm, such as Bosc or Anjou)
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1.5 cups Brown sugar
  • 0.75 cups Heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 cups Pecans (optional, chopped)
  • 4 scoops Vanilla ice cream (optional for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Peel the pears, keeping the stems intact if possible for presentation. Slice the bottom of each pear slightly so they can stand upright in a baking dish.

Step 3

In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar until it dissolves and forms a thick paste.

Step 4

Reduce the heat and slowly whisk in the heavy cream. Cook the mixture for about 3-4 minutes, stirring continuously, until it reaches a smooth, caramel-like consistency.

Step 5

Remove the caramel sauce from heat, then stir in the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt.

Step 6

Place the pears upright in a baking dish. Pour the caramel sauce over the pears, making sure they are evenly coated. Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the top (if using).

Step 7

Cover the baking dish loosely with aluminum foil. Bake the pears in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are tender but still hold their shape. Baste them with the caramel sauce halfway through baking.

Step 8

Once the pears are done, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool slightly for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Step 9

To serve, place each pear on a dessert plate, drizzle with extra caramel sauce from the baking dish, and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side if desired.
