Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter
  • 2 cups Brown sugar (packed)
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 3 cups Powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

In a medium-sized saucepan set over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.

Step 2

Add the brown sugar to the melted butter and stir until combined. Continue to cook the mixture, stirring constantly, for 2-3 minutes until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture turns smooth.

Step 3

Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. Continue to cook for an additional 2 minutes until the mixture is fully combined and slightly thickened.

Step 4

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Let the caramel mixture cool slightly for about 5 minutes.

Step 5

Transfer the caramel to a mixing bowl. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating on low speed with an electric mixer. Once combined, increase the mixer to medium speed and beat until the frosting is smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 6

If the frosting is too thick, add 1-2 teaspoons of additional heavy cream until the desired consistency is reached. If it is too thin, add a little more powdered sugar.

Step 7

Allow the frosting to cool completely before spreading it on cakes, cupcakes, or other desserts.
