Ingredients

  • 6 medium Apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1.25 cups All-purpose flour, divided
  • 1 cup Rolled oats
  • 0.5 cup Butter, unsalted and cold
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup Caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish or similarly sized pan.

Step 2

Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin, even slices. Place them in a large mixing bowl.

Step 3

Add the lemon juice, granulated sugar, brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of the flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the apples. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.

Step 4

Spread the apple mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.

Step 5

In a separate mixing bowl, combine the remaining flour, rolled oats, and salt. Cut the cold butter into small cubes and add it to the dry ingredients.

Step 6

Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour and oat mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 7

Sprinkle the oat crumble mixture evenly over the apples in the baking dish.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.

Step 9

Remove the crisp from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes.

Step 10

Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the top of the crisp while it is still slightly warm. Serve warm on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
