Ingredients

  • 60 grams butter
  • 100 grams brown sugar
  • 125 ml water
  • 50 grams brandied raisins (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 3 tablespoons brandy
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

Step 2

Stir in the brown sugar and cook until the sugar dissolves and starts to bubble slightly.

Step 3

Add the water (and brandied raisins if using) to the saucepan and stir until combined.

Step 4

In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with cold water until it forms a smooth slurry.

Step 5

Gradually add the cornstarch mixture to the saucepan, stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming.

Step 6

Continue to cook over medium heat until the sauce thickens slightly, about 2–3 minutes.

Step 7

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the brandy, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Cook for another 1–2 minutes, stirring gently, to meld the flavors.

Step 8

Remove from heat and let the sauce cool slightly before serving.

Step 9

Serve warm over desserts like Malva pudding, steamed puddings, or vanilla ice cream for a decadent treat.
