Ingredients

  • 6 pieces Apples (medium-sized, preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Light corn syrup
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Red food coloring
  • 6 pieces Wooden sticks or skewers
  • 1 tablespoon Butter (for greasing the tray)

Directions

Step 1

Wash and dry the apples thoroughly to remove any wax or residue. Remove the stems and insert wooden sticks into the tops of the apples until they are securely in place.

Step 2

Line a baking tray with parchment paper and lightly grease it with butter to prevent the apples from sticking.

Step 3

In a medium-sized, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Step 4

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil without stirring. Allow it to cook until the temperature reaches 300°F (149°C), also known as the hard crack stage, using a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature closely.

Step 5

Remove the saucepan from the heat and quickly stir in the red food coloring until evenly mixed.

Step 6

Working quickly, tilt the saucepan slightly and dip each apple into the candy mixture, rotating to coat the apple evenly. Let the excess candy drip off and immediately place the apple on the prepared greased parchment paper to cool and set.

Step 7

Repeat the dipping process for each apple. If the candy mixture thickens while you work, return it to low heat for a few seconds to loosen it up.

Step 8

Allow the candy-coated apples to cool completely at room temperature for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until the candy coating has hardened.

Step 9

Serve and enjoy your homemade Candy Apple Delight!
