Ingredients

  • 6 whole Apples
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Light corn syrup
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Red food coloring
  • 1 cup Shredded coconut
  • 6 pieces Wooden sticks
  • 1 teaspoon Butter

Directions

Step 1

Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Remove the stems and insert a wooden stick securely into the center of each apple.

Step 2

Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper and lightly greasing it with butter to prevent sticking.

Step 3

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.

Step 4

Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring further. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature, and heat until it reaches 300°F (or the hard-crack stage). This will take about 20 minutes.

Step 5

Once the candy reaches temperature, remove the pan from the heat and quickly stir in the red food coloring.

Step 6

Working quickly, tilt the pan and dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, turning to coat it completely. Allow any excess to drip off back into the pan.

Step 7

Immediately roll the coated apple in shredded coconut to cover the surface evenly. Place the apple onto the prepared baking sheet to cool and harden.

Step 8

Repeat the process with the remaining apples. If the candy hardens in the pan, gently reheat it over low heat to liquefy.

Step 9

Allow the candied apples to cool completely at room temperature before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days.
