Ingredients

  • 6 pieces Apples
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Light corn syrup
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red food coloring
  • 6 pieces Wooden sticks

Directions

Step 1

Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Remove their stems and insert a wooden stick firmly into the top of each apple.

Step 2

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and set it aside.

Step 3

In a medium, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water. Stir the mixture over medium heat until the sugar has completely dissolved.

Step 4

Attach a candy thermometer to the saucepan, ensuring the tip is submerged but not touching the bottom. Increase the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a boil without stirring.

Step 5

Once the candy mixture reaches 300°F (150°C) — the hard crack stage — remove it from the heat immediately.

Step 6

Stir in the red food coloring quickly until evenly distributed. Be cautious as the mixture will be extremely hot.

Step 7

Working swiftly, tilt the saucepan slightly to create a deeper pool of candy and dip each apple into the mixture, twisting to coat it evenly. Let the excess drip back into the pan and place the coated apple onto the prepared baking sheet.

Step 8

Allow the candied apples to cool and harden completely at room temperature before serving.
