Ingredients

  • 250 grams Ground pork
  • 250 grams Ground beef
  • 120 grams Unsalted butter
  • 350 grams All-purpose flour
  • 100 milliliters Cold water
  • 1 medium, diced Onion
  • 2 stalks, diced Celery
  • 1 medium, diced Bell pepper
  • 3 cloves, minced Garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Hot sauce
  • 1 large, beaten Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and a pinch of salt. Cut the unsalted butter into small cubes and use your hands or a pastry cutter to blend it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

Step 2

Slowly add the cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Step 3

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion, celery, and bell pepper, and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 5

Stir in the ground pork and beef, breaking it apart as it browns. Cook until the meat is no longer pink, about 8-10 minutes.

Step 6

Mix in the Cajun seasoning, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Adjust the seasoning to taste, and add a few drops of hot sauce for extra heat. Cook for another 2 minutes to blend the flavors, then remove the skillet from heat to let the mixture cool slightly.

Step 7

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 8

Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness. Use a round cutter or small bowl to cut out circles about 6 inches in diameter.

Step 9

Place 2-3 tablespoons of the meat filling onto one side of each dough circle, leaving space around the edges. Brush the edges lightly with the beaten egg, then fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together and crimp with a fork to seal.

Step 10

Place the meat pies on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the remaining beaten egg for a golden finish.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and flaky. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Step 12

Serve warm and enjoy your homemade Cajun meat pies as a snack or as part of a meal!
