Ingredients

  • 1 lb White fish fillets (e.g., cod, mahi-mahi, or tilapia)
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Ground cumin
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 8 Corn tortillas
  • 2 cups Shredded cabbage (red or green)
  • 0.5 cup Fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • 2 Lime (cut into wedges)
  • 0.5 cup Sour cream
  • 1 tsp Hot sauce (optional, for crema)
  • 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 0.25 cup Pickled jalapeños (chopped, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.

Step 2

In a small bowl, mix together the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Step 3

Pat the fish fillets dry with a paper towel, then brush them with olive oil on both sides.

Step 4

Rub the spice mixture evenly over the fish fillets to coat them.

Step 5

Place the fish on the preheated skillet or grill pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then gently flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Set aside.

Step 6

While the fish is cooking, prepare the crema by combining sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice (half a lime), and hot sauce (if using) in a small bowl. Stir until smooth and set aside.

Step 7

Warm the corn tortillas in a dry skillet or directly over a gas flame until slightly charred and pliable, about 10-15 seconds per side.

Step 8

Assemble the tacos by placing a portion of the cooked fish in the center of a warm tortilla. Top with shredded cabbage, a drizzle of crema, chopped cilantro, and pickled jalapeños (if desired).

Step 9

Serve the tacos immediately with lime wedges on the side for extra zest.
