Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 1 cups Warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 cups Walnuts (finely ground)
  • 1 cups Brown sugar (lightly packed)
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon (ground)
  • 0.25 cups Milk
  • 1 Egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • 0 to taste Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.

Step 2

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

Step 3

Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Step 4

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 6

Meanwhile, prepare the filling by combining ground walnuts, brown sugar, cinnamon, and 1/4 cup milk in a medium bowl. Mix until it forms a spreadable paste.

Step 7

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 8

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions.

Step 9

Roll out one portion of the dough into a rectangle, about 12x8 inches.

Step 10

Spread half of the walnut filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.

Step 11

Starting with the long edge, gently roll the dough into a tight log. Pinch the seams and tuck the ends under.

Step 12

Repeat with the other portion of dough and remaining filling.

Step 13

Place the rolls seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Cover loosely with a towel and let rise for 30 minutes.

Step 14

Brush the rolls with beaten egg for a golden finish.

Step 15

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.

Step 16

Allow the rolls to cool on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired, before slicing and serving.
