Ingredients

  • 1.75 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cups Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.5 cups Cabernet sauvignon wine
  • 0.5 cups Vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Boiling water
  • 2 cups Fresh strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons Balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar
  • 1 cup Chocolate ganache (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cabernet sauvignon, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.

Step 4

Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 5

Stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin—this is normal.

Step 6

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 7

While the cakes are baking, prepare the strawberries. In a medium bowl, mix the sliced strawberries with balsamic vinegar and powdered sugar. Let them macerate for at least 10 minutes.

Step 8

Remove the cakes from the oven and cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 9

Once the cakes are cool, optionally frost with chocolate ganache or leave plain for a simpler presentation.

Step 10

Top the cake with the balsamic strawberries, spooning the juices over the top for added flavor.

Step 11

Slice and serve. Enjoy your Cabernet Chocolate Cake with Strawberries!
