Ingredients

  • 1 head Green cabbage
  • 1 pound Ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup Cooked rice
  • 1 small, diced Onion
  • 2 minced Garlic cloves
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 cups Tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully peel 8 to 10 whole cabbage leaves and blanch them in the boiling water for 2 to 3 minutes, or until softened. Remove and let cool on a clean kitchen towel.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, cooked rice, diced onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well until fully combined.

Step 3

Lay one cabbage leaf flat on a surface. Place about 1/4 cup of the meat mixture in the center of the leaf. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling, then roll it up tightly to form a packet. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.

Step 4

In a large skillet or shallow pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Arrange the cabbage packets seam-side down in a single layer in the skillet.

Step 5

In a small mixing bowl, combine tomato sauce and water. Pour the mixture over the cabbage packets, ensuring they are mostly submerged.

Step 6

Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the packets cook for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the filling is cooked through.

Step 7

Serve the cabbage packets hot with some sauce spooned over the top. Optionally, garnish with fresh parsley for added color and flavor.
