Ingredients

  • 1 head Green cabbage
  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 medium (diced) Onion
  • 3 minced Garlic cloves
  • 14.5 ounces Canned diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 2 cups Cooked white rice
  • 2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage, cut it into quarters, and chop into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.

Step 3

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

Step 5

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.

Step 6

Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, tomato paste, paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the mixture for 5 minutes to let the flavors combine.

Step 7

In a large pot, bring water to a boil and blanch the chopped cabbage for 3 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Step 8

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice, cabbage, and ground beef mixture. Mix well to evenly distribute the ingredients.

Grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish. Spread the cabbage and beef mixture evenly in the dish.

Step 10

Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the casserole.

Step 11

Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Step 13

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
