Ingredients

  • 300 grams Sponge cake
  • 3 whole Pears (ripe but firm)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 100 grams Brown sugar
  • 500 milliliters Heavy whipping cream
  • 3 tablespoons Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 100 grams Butterscotch pudding mix
  • 500 milliliters Cold milk
  • 100 grams Pecans (toasted and chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Caramel sauce (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Peel, core, and dice the pears into small cubes.

Step 2

In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced pears and brown sugar, and stir to coat. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the pears are softened and caramelized. Set aside to cool.

Step 3

Prepare the butterscotch pudding by whisking the pudding mix with the cold milk as per the package instructions. Chill in the refrigerator until set.

Step 4

In a large bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.

Step 5

Cut the sponge cake into small cubes, about 2 cm each.

Step 6

In a trifle dish or individual serving glasses, assemble the trifle by layering ingredients: Start with a layer of sponge cake cubes, followed by a layer of butterscotch pudding, a layer of caramelized pears, a sprinkle of chopped pecans, and a layer of whipped cream.

Step 7

Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with whipped cream on top.

Step 8

Garnish the trifle with a drizzle of caramel sauce and a sprinkle of chopped pecans.

Step 9

Chill the trifle in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to meld.
