Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, heat the milk and 0.5 cup of unsalted butter over low heat until the butter melts and the mixture is warm (about 110°F). Do not let it boil.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 1 cup of flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt.

Step 3

Pour the warm milk-butter mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until combined.

Step 4

Add the egg and mix well. Gradually add the remaining flour, about 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

Step 5

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until the dough becomes elastic and smooth.

Step 6

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Punch down the dough and divide it into 2 equal portions. Roll each portion into a 12-inch circle on a floured surface.

Step 8

Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut each circle into 8 equal wedges (like slicing a pizza).

Step 9

Starting from the wide end of each wedge, roll the dough tightly toward the narrow end to form a crescent shape. Arrange the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them 2 inches apart.

Step 10

Cover the rolls with a kitchen towel and let them rise again in a warm place for 30 minutes, until puffy.

Step 11

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 12

Bake the crescent rolls for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 13

Brush the finished rolls with 3 tablespoons of melted butter while still warm.

Step 14

Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
