Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef ribeye or sirloin
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.5 unit pear or apple, grated
  • 2 stalks green onions, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

Place the beef in the freezer for 20-30 minutes to make it easier to slice thinly.

Step 2

Using a sharp knife, slice the beef against the grain into thin strips, about 1/8-inch thick.

Step 3

In a medium mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated pear or apple, chopped green onions, grated ginger, and black pepper. Mix well to form the marinade.

Step 4

Add the sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring all the pieces are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight for the best flavor.

Step 5

Preheat a grill or broiler to medium-high heat. If using a grill, lightly oil the grates with vegetable oil to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Remove the beef from the marinade and let any excess marinade drip off. Discard the remaining marinade.

Step 7

Grill or broil the beef slices in a single layer, cooking for 1-2 minutes per side until the edges are caramelized and the meat is cooked through.

Step 8

Transfer the cooked beef to a serving plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds for garnish.

Step 9

Serve immediately with steamed rice and side dishes such as kimchi or pickled vegetables.
