Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cups Corn syrup
  • 0.5 cups Water
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cups Sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoons Sea salt
  • 2 drops Optional food coloring

Directions

Step 1

Prepare a 9x9-inch pan by lining it with parchment paper and lightly greasing it with butter or non-stick spray. Set aside.

Step 2

In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.

Step 3

Increase the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Attach a candy thermometer to the saucepan, ensuring it doesn’t touch the bottom.

Step 4

Once the mixture reaches 240°F (116°C), carefully stir in the unsalted butter and sweetened condensed milk. Be cautious, as the mixture will bubble up.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to medium and continue stirring constantly, ensuring the mixture doesn’t scorch. Heat until the candy reaches 250°F (121°C) on the candy thermometer for a firm, chewy consistency.

Step 6

Remove the saucepan from the heat and immediately stir in the vanilla extract, sea salt, and food coloring (if using). Stir until smooth.

Step 7

Carefully pour the hot candy mixture into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula if needed.

Step 8

Allow the candy to cool at room temperature for about 2–3 hours or until fully set.

Step 9

Once cooled, use a sharp knife to cut the candy into bite-sized squares. Wrap each piece in wax paper to prevent sticking, or store in an airtight container.
