Trim the ends of the Brussels sprouts and remove any yellow or damaged outer leaves. Cut the sprouts in half, or quarter them if they are large.
Peel and finely dice the shallot. Mince the garlic cloves.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil and butter. Once melted and shimmering, add the prepared Brussels sprouts.
