Ingredients

  • 150 grams unsalted butter
  • 200 grams granulated sugar
  • 50 grams light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 150 grams all-purpose flour
  • 50 grams unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 100 grams chocolate chips (semisweet or dark)
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a 20x20 cm (8x8 inch) square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhangs on the sides for easy removal.

Step 2

In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from the heat and stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until combined.

Step 3

Allow the butter and sugar mixture to cool slightly, then whisk in the eggs, one at a time, until smooth and glossy.

Step 4

In a separate mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 6

Stir in the chocolate chips and milk, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Step 7

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly with a spatula.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until the top is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Step 9

Remove the pan from the oven and allow the chocolate slice to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

Step 10

Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhangs to lift the slice out of the pan. Cut into squares and serve. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
