Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Halibut steaks
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 cup Fresh cranberries
  • 0.5 cup Orange juice
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh thyme leaves
  • 0.25 cup Water
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the broiler in your oven to high and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.

Step 2

Pat the halibut steaks dry with paper towels and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 3

Brush both sides of each halibut steak with olive oil, then season with salt and black pepper evenly.

Step 4

Set the halibut steaks aside while you prepare the cranberry compote.

Step 5

In a medium saucepan, combine the fresh cranberries, orange juice, granulated sugar, honey, fresh thyme leaves, and water.

Step 6

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 8-10 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens slightly.

Step 7

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the unsalted butter until melted and fully incorporated. Set the compote aside to cool slightly.

Step 8

Place the halibut steaks under the broiler and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Be careful not to overcook.

Step 9

Transfer the halibut steaks to serving plates and spoon the warm cranberry compote generously over the top.

Step 10

Serve immediately with your choice of sides, such as roasted vegetables or wild rice, and enjoy this flavorful dish!
