Ingredients

  • 400 grams broccoli florets
  • 200 grams button mushrooms
  • 3 pieces garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1.5 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoons salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 60 milliliters water

Directions

Step 1

Wash the broccoli florets and mushrooms thoroughly. Cut the broccoli into bite-sized pieces and slice the mushrooms thinly.

Step 2

Peel and finely mince the garlic cloves.

Step 3

In a large skillet or wok, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 30 seconds, stirring constantly, until fragrant but not burnt.

Step 5

Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they release their moisture and begin to brown.

Step 6

Add the broccoli florets to the skillet along with the water. Cover with a lid and let the broccoli steam for 4-5 minutes, or until it becomes bright green and tender-crisp.

Step 7

Remove the lid and stir in the soy sauce, black pepper, and salt. Add red pepper flakes if you prefer a bit of heat.

Step 8

Toss everything together for another 2-3 minutes on medium heat until the flavors meld together and the excess liquid evaporates.

Step 9

Transfer the broccoli and mushrooms to a serving dish and serve warm as a side dish or light main course.
