Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Pasta (penne or fettuccine)
  • 3 cups Broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (unsalted)
  • 3 whole Garlic cloves, minced
  • 12 leaves Fresh sage leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon zest
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 cup Pasta cooking water

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta cooking water before draining the pasta.

Step 2

While the pasta cooks, steam or blanch the broccoli florets in a separate pot of boiling water for 3-4 minutes, until tender but still bright green. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat until the butter melts. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

Step 4

Add the sage leaves to the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring gently, until crisp and fragrant.

Step 5

Lower the heat and stir in the blanched broccoli. Cook for 2-3 minutes, tossing to coat the broccoli in the garlic-sage mixture.

Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, along with the reserved pasta cooking water, lemon zest, salt, and black pepper. Toss everything together for 2-3 minutes to combine and heat through.

Step 7

Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt or pepper if needed.

Serve immediately, garnished with additional Parmesan or sage leaves if desired.
