Ingredients

  • 8 cups day-old French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 0.75 cup raisins
  • 0.25 cup whiskey
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter (for sauce)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for sauce)
  • 0.25 cup whiskey (for sauce)
  • 0.25 cup heavy cream (for sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for sauce)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set aside.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, eggs, 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Whisk until smooth and well combined.

Step 3

Place the cubed French bread into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the raisins evenly across the bread cubes.

Step 4

Pour the milk mixture over the bread and raisins. Gently press down the bread cubes with a spoon or spatula to ensure they absorb the liquid.

Step 5

Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the top of the bread mixture. Let it sit for 15 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the custard.

Step 6

Bake the bread pudding in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 7

While the bread pudding bakes, prepare the whiskey sauce. In a small saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of butter over medium heat.

Step 8

Whisk in 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1/4 cup of whiskey, stirring until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.

Step 9

Stir in 1/4 cup of heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Cook the sauce over low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

Step 10

Remove the bread pudding from the oven and allow it to cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Step 11

Serve the bread pudding warm, drizzled generously with the whiskey sauce. Enjoy!
