Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground breakfast sausage
  • 3 cups Frozen hash browns
  • 6 Large eggs
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 1.5 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 16-ounce can Refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Chicken broth
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Paprika

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray or butter.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground breakfast sausage, breaking it into small pieces as it browns. Once fully cooked, drain any excess grease and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, cook the frozen hash browns until golden and crispy. Transfer to the greased baking dish, spreading them out evenly as the base layer.

Step 4

Evenly sprinkle the cooked sausage over the layer of hash browns in the dish.

Step 5

In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the sausage and hash browns.

Step 6

Tear the refrigerated biscuit dough into small pieces and arrange them on top of the egg mixture.

Step 7

Bake the casserole uncovered for 25 minutes in the preheated oven. After 25 minutes, sprinkle the remaining 0.5 cups of shredded cheddar cheese over the top and return to the oven to bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.

Step 8

While the casserole bakes, make the country gravy. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour to form a smooth roux, cooking it for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.

Step 9

Gradually whisk in the chicken broth and heavy cream, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Simmer over low heat until the gravy thickens. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.

Step 10

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing into portions. Drizzle generous amounts of country gravy on top of each serving and enjoy!
