Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 large Egg
  • 3.25 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground allspice
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 0.5 cup Raisins
  • 0.5 cup Powdered sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Water

Directions

Step 1

Add the milk and butter to a small saucepan. Heat over low heat until the butter is melted and the mixture is warm (about 110°F).

Step 2

Pour the milk-butter mixture into the bread machine pan.

Step 3

Add the egg, flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt to the bread machine pan, layering them as per your machine manufacturer's instructions.

Step 4

Sprinkle the yeast on top of the dry ingredients.

Step 5

Place the bread machine pan into the machine and select the 'Dough' cycle. Press ‘Start’.

Step 6

When the machine beeps during the first knead (or after 5 minutes of mixing), add the raisins to the dough.

Step 7

Once the Dough cycle is complete, remove the dough from the machine and place it on a lightly floured surface.

Step 8

Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape each into a smooth ball.

Step 9

Place the balls onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

Step 10

Cover the buns with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise in a warm place for 30-40 minutes, until doubled in size.

Step 11

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 12

Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown on top. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Step 13

To make the icing, mix powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and water in a small bowl until smooth. Transfer to a piping bag or a resealable plastic bag with the corner cut off.

Step 14

Pipe a cross on the top of each bun to finish.
