Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Paprika
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 Burger buns (sesame or brioche)
  • 0.5 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup Fried onion strings
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 4 Lettuce leaves
  • 4 Tomato slices
  • 12 Pickle slices

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your grill or stovetop griddle to medium-high heat.

Step 2

In a large bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 3

Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties about 1/2 inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

Step 4

Place the patties on the preheated grill or griddle. Cook for 4-5 minutes on the first side, until browned and seared.

Step 5

Flip the patties and immediately add a slice of cheddar cheese to each. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for well-done burgers.

Step 6

While the burgers cook, lightly butter the inside of the burger buns and toast them on the grill or in a skillet until golden brown.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by spreading a layer of BBQ sauce on the bottom bun. Add a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, and three pickle slices.

Step 8

Place the cooked burger patty with melted cheese on top of the vegetables.

Step 9

Add a generous handful of fried onion strings and drizzle more BBQ sauce on top, if desired.

Step 10

Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately with your favorite sides, like fries or coleslaw.
