Ingredients

  • 250 ml Water
  • 100 grams Unsalted butter
  • 150 grams All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 4 Large eggs
  • 500 ml Heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar
  • 100 grams Chocolate (optional, for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (optional, for glaze)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, salt, and granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat until the butter has melted and the mixture begins to boil.

Step 3

Remove the saucepan from the heat and immediately add the flour. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.

Step 4

Return the saucepan to low heat and continue stirring the dough for 1-2 minutes to cook out excess moisture. Then remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.

Step 5

Add the eggs one at a time to the slightly cooled dough, beating well after each addition. The dough should become glossy and smooth, with a pipeable consistency.

Step 6

Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large round tip, or use two spoons to shape mounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Create buns roughly 2 inches in diameter, spacing them 2 inches apart.

Step 7

Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until puffed, golden, and hollow when lightly tapped on the bottom. Do not open the oven door while baking, as this may cause the buns to collapse.

Step 8

Once baked, remove the buns from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before filling.

Step 9

To make the cream filling, whip the heavy whipping cream, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar together in a chilled bowl until stiff peaks form.

Step 10

If making a chocolate glaze, melt the chocolate with the milk in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water, stirring until smooth. Let cool slightly before using.

Step 11

Slice each cooled bun in half horizontally. Pipe or spoon the whipped cream generously onto the bottom halves, then replace the tops. Optionally, drizzle with chocolate glaze or dust with powdered sugar.

Step 12

Serve the buns fresh on the day they are made for the best texture and taste. Enjoy your Bolludagur buns!
